Last Day of August

August 31, 2014 - The Last Day of August

The last day of August and how better to spend it than sitting down on the edge of the water with mangroves to my left and my Love to my right.  As I looked out on the calm water, fish occasionally jumped. An elderly woman with who spoke in broken English managed to meander down the steep sloop and rest in one of the Adirondack chairs water side. Overcast and temperatures still in the 90s drew the locals to the watering hole. A BBQ was given by a local vendor from Osprey and for $15 a plate was piled with slow cooked BBQ ribs and chicken, coleslaw and pork and beans.

For dessert: feet dipped in the Gulf at Casey Key with a steady warm wind blowing while seeing rain drop in the in distance. Aah, sweet, sweet Sunday. Thank you Summer.

The Struggle Between Beauty and Poverty Is All Around Us

The Struggle between Beauty and Poverty Is All Around Us

It seemed to me that this man barely acknowledged the offer of
a free sandwich – more of grunt than an acknowledgment.
But, maybe that was the best he had to offer.
The intent to help was given; but, not before the avoidance of my pain: seeing his poverty.
The human spirit acquiesces to self or others at any given moment when
faced with one’s own embarrassment of plenty while encountering those with lack,
our hearts break and becomes fearful.
In that split second, we’re not sure what the proper action is to take.
I know that it is fear that diverts our footsteps from facing our brothers in need.
It is LOVE that gives us courage we need to face our brothers and at least offer a glass of
cold water to slake to their thirst.
Let love rule my life, I pray.

A Funny Story

A Funny Story: 08/27/2014

I attempted to use Skype today. Key word in that last sentence was, “attempted.”  But, I failed miserably at my attempt. What is humorous, at least to me, is how quickly one forgets the proper way to engage in technology. I find this especially humorous due to the fact that I spent a considerable amount of time studying various type of information technology in college.

College days, ah yea, remember them? Well for me it wasn’t that long ago. I was studying all about information science a mere year ago.  Had I not created instructional technical videos for course using various forms of technology and various social media and web based applications? Yes, very much so. So I guess the old adage still holds true, "Use it or lose it."
